Discussion: Draco's Delightful 'Do

Hello my lovelies!

I have two questions for you all.

This one is sort of specifically to whoever dabbles in art on my flist:

How do you go about drawing two characters?

More specifically, do you mostly work on one character at a time or do you work on them both equally?

I must admit, I'm sort of struggling with this two character thing. What I've been doing is getting both to a certain point, working on one until near completion and then doing the other. While that works, it's frustrating because I have a hard time getting going and deciding on who to work on first. I feel all over the place and unfocused and ohhh, my brain hurts.

I do realize it's probably just me switching to a new gear and getting used to it. I'd love to know how you all go about it, though!

And my second question is for everyone! :D

What kind of hairstyle do you imagine on Draco?

And if you'd like to answer with picture examples, go right ahead!

I'm not sure how I see Draco, actually. I have Harry distinct in my mind, but Draco's always a but unclear. When I'm reading a fic, I tend to think of him with loose hair around his face, unless the author specifies a hairdo. I don't really imagine him with hair back off his face, but he seems to look best when I draw him that way for some reason. Maybe it just goes with the kind of face I give him.

At the moment, I'm trying to give him a hairdo with bangs instead of back, but he just doesn't look like Draco to me when I do that. I put bangs on him and he looks more like how I see Scorpius, and then once I push them back, he turns into Draco completely. Go figure, LOL!

So, tell me how you see Draco and how you like him best in your mind. I'm quite wanting to know!

Also, I'm so excited that hd_career_fair has started posting! :D It's brilliant. I really needed a H/D fix!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I so like hearing about how you work and that you can relate to my trouble with seeing a character's face clearly! :D

My inability to define Draco's features clearly in my mind actually doesn't have to do with how I feel about him emotionally. I'm just indecisive about which features I'd like to give him. In fact, in my At Summer's End piece, Draco's face was finished first and Harry was an unsightly blob for a long time, haha!

I definitely worry about how I'm going to make the other one match, but somehow I've done it in the two that I've worked on. I think if I did less detailing then I could do both at the same time, but when I'm working on one of their faces, I have to focus - I can't go back and forth between the two or I feel all over the place and won't get anything done. ;)

I so agree with you that being Lucius Malfoy's son, Draco would feel something great about his father, whether good or bad, and have to state that. And yes, I love the idea that he would show it in his hairstyle.

I know I haven't told you yet, but I'm in love with your artwork. Completely infatuated. I think you're such a brilliant artist!

And I've been meaning to ask you, in your post with all of your pieces for the hp10k_showcase, the only one that I'm able to see is the one of Narcissa! And I do so want to see the rest of them. Is it only because I'm on dial-up that it's not working? That doesn't make sense, though, because they should show up as something, but they don't show up at all.

Yeah, I need to do something about hp10k - my stuff was hosted on box.net, because of being anonymous, but I didn't renew my subscription and you can't direct link from a free account. I can't change the url in the posts because they were each posted by the different authors, so at some point I need to email each author with the replacement url and beg them to edit the post. Boring!

Thanks very much for the link! They're all such wonderful drawings! I'm so glad I get to see them now. I've been wanting to for a while, and I've tried to load that hp10k page a good handful of times, hoping it would work. ;) What a trip that you'd have to email each author separately with the new url!

Goodness, yes, that Broad - he's just too gorgeous and so Draco. :D
