I made cookies!

These were absolutely delicious. The peanut butter was subtle and added a richness and depth rather than an overwhelming flavor.

Orange and Peanut Butter Cookies

  • 1/2 c/125 g butter, softened

  • 1/2 c/100 g sugar

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten*

  • 1/4 c/75 g peanut butter

  • Grated peel of 1 small orange

  • 1/4 c/50 ml orange juice

  • 2 c/300 g all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

1. Preheat oven to 350 F/180 C.

2. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, peanut butter, orange peel and juice. Sift flour and baking powder together and beat into mixture.

3. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough, spaced well apart, onto the baking sheets. I had three per row.

4. Bake until golden, 18 to 20 minutes. Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. I transfer immediately to keep the bottoms golden.

*As I'm vegetarian, I used
OrgraN No Egg egg replacer instead.

Now, the recipe didn't call for the chocolate on top. That was my design, and I think it really made them! This glaze recipe is unbelievable; the texture was fabulous, it held its shape when spooning onto the cookies and then it set up perfectly!

Chocolate Glaze

  • 2 Tsp butter

  • 2 (10 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate

1. Chop chocolate into small pieces. Combine with butter in saucepan. Simmer on stove top, stirring frequently until melted and smooth. Remove from heat.

And I have two recs. Both are an absolute must!

[livejournal.com profile] silentauror's Grey Dawning. Reading her stories is like slipping into a hot bath, all the comfort but with way more excitement. This one is no different. The characterizations are fabulous, the plot as twisting and intriguing as a Knockturn Alley side street, the tension constantly spiraling and the sex maddeningly passionate.

[livejournal.com profile] stellamoon's Pensive, truly stunning artwork of Draco, including thumb-biting and a chest-baring dressing gown! YUM!

I'm not sure what looks more yummy: your cookies, or Stella's Draco.

Either way, both make me extremely hungry

Thanks so much for rec'ing the art - I don't know why I didn't have her on my flist, but I would have missed it otherwise. I have Grey Dawning bookmarked - I hope to get to read it over the holidays.

And the cookies look yummy - I'll have to see if I can get someone to make them for me. I am totally not domestic in any way, shape, or form!

Fabulous! I'm so glad I was able to point you over to her Draco. And Grey Dawning, yes, you simply have read it when you get a chance! It's one of those that I could not put down.

Thank you! Hee hee, please do badger someone into making them for you! You can let them keep one cookie as a reward. ;D

Thank you!! :) I'm excited you want to try them. I'm not good enough of a baker to know of a non-butter substitute, and I just tried looking it up but had no luck. I don't think you'd be able to skip it outright, but you can certainly replace it with another nut butter like almond butter, or if you're allergic to nuts, soy nut butter would do the trick!

Thanks! They look mouth-watering. I'm not allergic to nuts, I just don't like peanut butter on anything other than bread. ;) I'll ask my aunt about the almond butter just to be sure.

Oh, I totally understand! I have to say, it is a very subtle flavor in these cookies, the orange really did take over, so it isn't like all peanut butter cookies or something. You might want to give it a try! :D

Thank you so much for the rec! You are terribly sweet to post it. And of course you HAD to rec [livejournal.com profile] silentauror's new fic!! If there's anyone not reading or already read it, they are CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those cookies look great. I. Do. Not. Like. Peanut Butter Cookies, though! But somehow, I am intrigued, anyway.

And can I just say, that photo looks like an effing magazine shot! You've got a great eye. But of course, I am not at all surprised by that!!

Of course, darling! I've been drooling all over that piece for a while now!

...they are CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right you are!!!!!

Thank you! :D You know, the funny thing is that I was out of a few baking ingredients and was looking for something I could make, and I stumbled upon this one. I don't think I would have tried it otherwise, but I'm glad I did!

Really, the orange definitely overpowered the peanut butter, but then again, I don't like coconut and when people have told me, "Oh, but you can barely taste it in this," I always can taste it very much. ;)

If you do try it, let me know what you thought!

And oh my, thank you so much! I'm not too confident in my photography skills, so I really appreciate that.

*big hugs*

I thought I had commented on this! Just go on without me! /dramatic

I always read [livejournal.com profile] silentauror's fics as soon as she posts them. She is truly a talent, and she is also a very nice woman. Not reading her fics is sacrilege, I swear! ;D

And your cookies... Yeah, I think I have you to blame for those extra five pounds then, huh? Lol! No, I didn't eat them to gain that weight... I'm pretty sure that was accomplished by just looking at them! Yum!! Note to self: must weigh yourself again. *groan*

Miss you! *hugs* =^;^=

Oh, I'm hanging in there as much as I can. My son just turned four, and I think I have a couple more gray strands of hair this month... Lol!

I've actually been in a scrooge-type mood lately, off and on. I think this past year and the stress I've gone through is catching up with me. It'll pass, I know, but it's hard to be as jolly as I should be right now. The authors I beta for keep me busy, though, and thank goodness for holiday Drarrys! They do help cheer me up! xD

I know you're busy, love, but I really have missed you a lot bit. *grins* I hope you're doing alright, too. Thanks for making me smile today! *glomps you and your cookies* :D

With everything you've been through, I can understand the stress catching up and just not feeling up to being jolly. I know it will pass though, sweetie, so try to relax and don't worry about being jolly - then you might feel more in the spirit if you take the pressure off yourself. :)

Yes, thank goodness for holiday Drarrys, hehehe! So much fun and excitement this month, wow!

I'm so happy I could make you smile, hon. That absolutely makes my day. *big, big hugs* :D

I went over and read Grey Dawning this weekend because of this rec and I love it!

Also, I am planning to make the cookies tomorrow and need a certain amount (I entered a cookie swap!) so I was wondering, how many do you usually get out of one batch?

I'm glad you read it and loved it! Isn't it just fabulous? :)

And I'm so excited you're trying these cookies, yay! Would love to hear how they come out. This is an estimated guess, but I'd say it made about 24-28. I like to make small cookies, though - more like a heaped tsp instead of a heaped Tsp.

I just finished making them and they are so good.

I doubled the recipe so that I would have enough for the cookie swap. I added cinnamon and did half crunchy and half smooth peanut butter. However, when I tasted one, I decided next time that I would add more cinnamon (I love cinnamon and it goes well with the orange) and add all crunchy peanut butter. Oh and I do not know if you did this, but since I was grating the peel, I just used the juice from the oranges..

The first dozen came out too perfect, so for the rest I tried to shape them less; just scooped and plopped.

Also, I have a funny story for you. When I was taking out the eggs I put them in the pockets in my apron. I knew they were there for then I needed them later, but I went about my business. As I was squeezing the juice out of the oranges, I leaned in too hard into the counter and crack, it broke right in my pocket. I tried to dry the apron, but I tend to be a messy baker, my clothes not my space, and I needed the apron. So I had to leave it on until the end.

Great recipe, thanks for sharing. You should try the cinnamon.

I adore the idea of adding cinnamon and crunchy peanut butter, that would be yummy. And I did use fresh squeezed orange juice for the juice, yes. :D Did you try the chocolate on top?

*laughs* Sorry to hear about the mishap with the eggs! That's something I would do. Oh, your poor apron. ♥

You're very welcome, sweetie. I'm excited you tried and enjoyed the cookies, that makes it so worth putting up! Look out for more. :)
